Overview

What the framework is trying to do

UNESCO's student framework treats AI competency as more than learning to operate tools. It organizes development around four aspects: a human-centred mindset, ethics of AI, AI techniques and applications, and AI system design.

Each aspect develops through three levels, Understand, Apply, and Create. The framework is designed to support curriculum design, learning outcomes, assessment, and localization across different education systems.

AI system design

Problem scoping, architecture design, testing, iteration, and feedback loops.

Why this framework is rated High

Rated High because human agency, accountability, equity, privacy, sustainability, ethical design, and social implications are integrated throughout the progression rather than isolated in a single ethics unit. It stops short of Very High because structural critique and political economy are not the framework's primary organizing purpose.
